A series of innovative workshops and enrichment activities that place in conjunction with Spotlight Series performances. This season, come and learn about the destruction of Africville, try your hand at a traditional Iroquoian dance, taste the finest Scotch, or pick up that uke you’ve been meaning to learn to play. This exciting series has a wide range of activities designed to inspire the artist in us all. Locations vary.

Fredericton Playhouse Create, Learn & Play Series presents

Participants will learn Iroquoian social dance steps along with fun interpretive dance movements that foster creative expression.
 
Gada:tro:t (Stomp Dance)  this social dance can be performed at any age and lays the foundation for understanding and connecting with indigenous dance styles.  You will learn and sing a simple “call and response” song.
 
Gayowaga:yoh (Old Moccasin Dance):  A social dance with a repeated 4-count step incorporating the use of the upper body and small individual improvisations.

Fredericton Playhouse Create, Learn & Play Series presents

Gregory Kozak is the artistic director, composer and instrument creator for ScrapArtsMusic.  He will conduct a hands-on illustrated talk about “found sound” and with the help of his ensemble, demonstrate the possibilities of creating musical instruments from recycled and salvaged materials.  The workshop will explore where to look for and assess materials with sonic potential, how to organize those sounds into a sonic palette, and conclude with simple musical ideas.
